A substance detectable in the environment at very low concentrations (micrograms per litre or even nanograms per litre). Its presence is due, at least in part, to human activity (industrial processes, agricultural practices or daily activities) and at these very low concentrations can have negative effects on living organisms due to its toxicity, persistence (= non-biodegradable) and/or bioaccumulation (= accumulation in body tissues).

Substance détectable dans l’environnement à très faible concentration (microgramme par litre voire nanogramme par litre). Sa présence est, au moins en partie, due à l’activité humaine (procédés industriels, pratiques agricoles ou activités quotidiennes) et peut à ces très faibles concentrations engendrer des effets négatifs sur les organismes vivants en raison de sa toxicité, de sa persistance (= non biodégradable) et/ou de sa bioaccumulation (= accumulation dans les tissus de l’organisme).
