A method of visualizing soft tissues of the body by applying an external magnetic field that makes it possible to distinguish between hydrogen atoms in different environments. MRI is a medical application of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).

Technique permettant d'observer les champs magnétiques locaux autour de noyaux atomiques. L'échantillon est placé dans un champ magnétique et le signal RMN est alors produit par l'excitation des noyaux de cet échantillon avec des ondes radio dans la résonance magnétique nucléaire, qui est détectée par des récepteurs radio sensibles.
